  • Salary Band – 6 with the commencing salary $117,400 per annum plus superannuation of 12%

About the role:

The role of the Operations Manager is critical to the successful operation of the Zone and the Zone’s ability to provide the Executive of the organisation with timely advice and recommendations on a wide range of sensitive, and sometimes, highly confidential issues. The position displays a high level of leadership and management of the team, including providing direction and support to team members to promote a positive team culture.

Key Outcomes / Accountabilities for the Operations Manager are summarised as follows but are not limited to:

  • Provide a high level of support to the Zone Director in the development and implementation of the Zone’s operational and strategic planning process in line with the NSWALC Strategic Plan; 
  • The provision of timely advice, detailed briefings and submissions for consideration by the Zone Director, the Executive of NSWALC and the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs on a range of operational, financial and otherwise sensitive issues impacting upon individual LALC's and the Land Rights system generally; 
  • Manage, develop and provide leadership to Zone staff to ensure positive team culture; 
  • Operational oversight of both financial and human resources to ensure effective and efficient operational management; 
  • Analysing risk and formulating effective risk management strategies;  
  • Represent and promote the interests of Aboriginal people and the Land Rights agenda when called upon to represent the Zone Director at forums, workshops, meetings and other gatherings as may be required from time to time; 
  • Work as a key senior member of the Zone staff to ensure compliance by LALC's with the provisions of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act, 1983 and associated legislation; 
  • Present and facilitate NSWALC suite of training packages including mandatory governance training; 
  • Establish sound rapport with LALC's, travelling widely across the Zone and providing on-the-spot assistance and guidance at LALC meetings; 
  • Act in accordance with NSWALC people policies and procedures, including WHS obligations at all times applying high standards of probity and ethical behaviour; 
  • Provide critical advice to other Business Units within the NSWALC
