Job Description - Payroll Lead

Payroll Manager for an established organisation in Wollongong Your new company
A large and people-focused organisation is seeking an experienced Payroll Lead to oversee its payroll function and guide a team through ongoing transformation and improvement. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a large payroll team while ensuring accurate and compliant weekly payroll processing for a high-volume workforce. This role will suit a technical payroll specialist with proven leadership experience and a strong focus on continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading, developing, and supporting a team of seven payroll staff.
  • Managing end-to-end weekly payroll for a large workforce
  • Interpreting complex Enterprise Agreements and Awards accurately.
  • Providing expert advice on entitlements, legislation, superannuation, and taxation.
  • Driving payroll system and process improvements.
  • Overseeing payroll audits and ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders across people, finance, and systems.
  • Supporting payroll-related projects and contributing to broader organisational initiatives.
  • What you'll need to succeed
  • Recent leadership experience within payroll, managing and developing a team.
  • Strong technical payroll capability, especially with complex or multiple EAs.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering process and system improvements
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a people-centred, flexible, and evolving environment.
