The Payroll Specialist - NZ is responsible for providing end-to-end accurate, timely, efficient and compliant payroll processing for all Opal Group NZ employees. The role ensures compliance with New Zealand payroll legislation and internal policies while leading process improvements, reporting, and providing expert payroll support to employees and managers.
This position is for 4 days/week and is located at our Head Office in Burnley.
You will contribute to the success of Opal by:
Ensure effective delivery of payroll services in line with SLAs, policies, and best practice standards.
A point of contact for the payroll team in SAP Processes and Technical support and will troubleshoot issues and conduct investigations and analysis to ensure compliance.
Process all activities connected with end-to-end payroll processing related to each authorised payrun to ensure payments to employees and staff are made accurately and on time.
Liaison with staff, site administrators and commercial managers in relation to any payroll matters or queries relating to employee entitlements, pay, GL postings etc.
Responsible for administering the SAP Payroll system for NZ with reconciliations.
Support compliance through ensuring changes to payroll, Kiwisaver, tax and any other agreement or legislative conditions are maintained and implemented in a timely manner

For this role, we expect you will have:
Extensive experience in end-to-end payroll operations in medium to large organisations with complex and multiple pay arrangements/agreements
Strong analytical skills with ability to work with volume data and problem solve
Strong relationship management skills with ability to engage with internal stakeholders across all levels as well as working with external payroll managed service partners
Strong experience with interpretation of legislation & legal rules and obligations for New Zealand
In-depth knowledge of employment legislation and IRD
Experience dealing with statutory and external agencies
Knowledge of SAP Payroll is essential
Knowledge and experience of SAP Technical Testing is preferred
