Physical Activity Advisor - Room for Advancement

The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) Victorian Branch is the leading professional association representing teachers and other professionals working in the fields of health and physical education. ACHPER Victoria’s purpose is to enable all people to lead active and healthy lives. 

POSITION PURPOSE

The overall purpose of this position is to support, guide and build capacity in schools and teachers to implement sustainable physical activity opportunities for all students using the Active Schools Framework. PAAs also need to ensure that this funded project meets its objectives for both the DE and ACHPER Victoria. 

LOCATION 

Role allows for combination of office and home-based work. The role is predominantly remotely-based, but there are times when attendance at ACHPER Victoria's offices, schools, planning days at various locations is required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supporting Active Schools with the following capabilities:

• Provide individualised planning, mentoring and support to DE schools that have received Active Schools funding to develop and implement strategies in one or more of the Key Priorities within the Active Schools Framework.
• Assist in the development of resources to support schools to implement the Active Schools Framework.
• Develop, promote and lead regional workshops and networking activities, both face to face and online, to build the capacity of schools and teachers to increase physical activity engagement.
• Contribute to local cross-agency and sector collaboration, promoting and facilitating with relevant DE and school staff, community organisations, health and sport sector stakeholders and other government organisations.
• Collect qualitative and quantitative data on engagement and progress of implementing an Active Schools Framework.

WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

ACHPER Victoria requires an experienced teacher to provide support to government Primary, Secondary and Specialist schools and teachers as a Physical Activity Advisor (PAA) for the Active Schools Expert Support Service. 

PAAs will support schools within the four Department of Education Regions and will support schools in both metropolitan and regional areas, therefore some travel is expected. Applicants are welcomed from both metropolitan and regional Victoria.

When not working within schools, flexible work arrangements can be made to complete work including online support and administrative tasks. Successful applicants will need to occasionally meet face to face with ACHPER Victoria staff and Active Schools Expert Support Service staff in various locations across Victoria and attend all internal Professional Development days.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

• Experience in leading or being actively engaged in supporting a whole of school, or cross curricular process of change in a DE school.
• Evidence of collaborating with sporting, recreational and community organisations to promote wider opportunities to increase student physical activity.
• Experience providing support or delivering professional development to other professionals with the implementation of a strong physical activity and/or school sport program.
• Demonstrated understanding of how data can be used to drive and inform decision making.
• Capacity and experience working independently, while contributing to the overall impact of a team.
