About the Role:

As a Principal Data Engineer (Databricks), you will lead the design, architecture, and delivery of modern data platforms at scale. You will drive the development of Databricks-based lakehouse architectures, building robust data pipelines, scalable data products, and cloud-native data platforms that power advanced analytics and AI.

You will work closely with architects, AI engineers, and product teams to deliver complex data solutions across the full lifecycle  from data ingestion and transformation through to analytics, machine learning, and generative AI enablement.

In this role, you will also mentor engineers, influence technical strategy, and help shape data engineering standards and best practices across V2 AI, driving technical excellence across the organisation.

What you will do: 

• Define the architecture and technical direction for modern data platforms, with a strong focus on Databricks and lakehouse architecture
• Design and deliver scalable data pipelines and data engineering solutions using Databricks and cloud-native technologies
• Drive best practices for data engineering, data platform architecture, and data governance
• Collaborate with AI, product, data, and architecture teams to shape data platform strategy, data models, and engineering standards
• Lead the design and implementation of batch and streaming data pipelines
• Advise and mentor engineers, influencing architecture decisions, data engineering practices, and platform design
• Guide the integration of data platforms with machine learning, analytics, and generative AI workloads
• Champion reusable data frameworks, data models, and platform accelerators across the organisation
• Help establish best practices across data orchestration, monitoring, data quality, and observability
• Stay at the forefront of modern data engineering, Databricks, and cloud data platforms, sharing insights internally and externally
  
  

About You: 

• Extensive experience designing and delivering modern data platforms and data engineering solutions at a Principal or Lead level
• Deep expertise with Databricks, Spark, and lakehouse architecture
• Strong experience building scalable data pipelines and distributed data processing systems
• Experience with data platform technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, and modern cloud data ecosystems
• Strong cloud experience across AWS, Azure or GCP
• Deep understanding of data modelling, data governance, and scalable data architectures
• Experience integrating data platforms with AI/ML and analytics workloads
• Skilled at defining technical strategy, setting engineering standards, and driving best practices across teams
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions across multiple projects
• Passionate about building high-quality data platforms, reusable frameworks, and scalable engineering solutions
• Excellent communicator and collaborator, able to translate complex technical concepts for stakeholders across engineering, product, and leadership teams
