In the role of Principal Engineer (Pavements & Materials Development Leader) you will use your experience and knowledge in road pavements and road pavement materials, particularly in unbound and stabilised road pavement materials, to undertake research and deliver projects, systems and documents that provide cost-effective, sustainable engineering solutions.

Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Leading and managing the Pavements & Materials Development team.
• Leading and providing technical governance for road pavements and road pavement materials, and related technologies, with a focus on unbound and stabilised pavement materials. This includes using your knowledge and experience in these areas to ensure that the department is delivering sustainable, innovative, cost-effective and high-performing road pavements.
• Leading, developing, undertaking and/or managing projects/programs to increase technical knowledge and levels of understanding of road pavements and road pavement materials, and related technologies (e.g. National Asset Centre of Excellence (NACOE) research), contributing to these as required. This includes applied specialist research, such as that done through NACOE, that integrates with, and leverages off, the work done by Austroads, universities, industry and other road jurisdictions. Related to this work, you will prepare related technical papers and reports and prepare and deliver presentations to conferences and at training sessions and workshops.
• Engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders - using a collaborative approach and your written and oral communication skills - to lead the development, application and procurement of sustainable, innovative, cost-effective and high-performing road pavements, road pavement materials and related technologies. This includes the appropriate and responsible use of recycled materials.
• Assessing the pavement impacts of heavy vehicles, including specialised, low and zero emissions heavy vehicles, and providing related advice.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions:
• A four-year Washington Accord accredited, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree - or equivalent which is assessed and accepted by Engineers Australia.
• Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to the position.
o Unregistered applicants are encouraged to apply for the position, provided they are registered as a RPEQ with the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland at the time of appointment.
• Current holder of a C-Class Queensland driver's licence.
• Criminal history screening will be conducted on the recommended person for the role.
