In the role of Principal Policy Advisor some of your responsibilities will include:
• Undertake policy research and development.
• Undertaking policy research and development that reflects good practice, responds to government priorities and contributes to improved outcomes for the community.
• Managing an ongoing program of policy and legislative initiatives to progress reform and improve marine safety and pollution control in relation to matters such as the operation of Queensland regulated ships, the management of waterways and the discharge of ship-sourced pollutants.
• Providing authoritative advice regarding the application of operational policy and procedures and the interpretation of maritime legislation.
• Effectively and efficiently managing transport related projects, ensuring alignment with the strategic direction of the department.
• Building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders across TMR, Local, State and Federal agencies and industry to ensure the successful delivery of policy and legislative reform.
To be considered suitable for the role you will have:
• Mandatory - Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
• Highly desirable - Holds a degree in law, project management, humanities or another relevant discipline.
Requirements of the role:
• Experience in undertaking policy research and analysis in relation to complex marine safety reforms and emerging policy issues.
• Proven ability to undertake policy development and legislative reform processes.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the provision of strategic and outcome focused policy advice, and the ability to undertake statutory interpretation.
• High level written, oral and interpersonal skills, with experience in drafting a range of governmental documents to senior levels of government and industry, such as cabinet submissions, briefings, reports, options papers and correspondence.
• Ability to contribute towards the delivery of team objectives, including by taking personal responsibility to deliver on agreed outcomes, providing a role model of persistence and positivity, and supporting other team members through work obstacles.
