Job Description - Principal Quality Management Officer , Agriculture and Fisheries

As our Principal Quality Management Officer, you will:

  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of reports, project proposals, protocols and procedures, submissions, briefing notes, presentations, and recommendations about maximising the quality of current operational systems, processes, and service delivery.
  • Supervise staff in accordance with all departmental policies, allocate and prioritise work, and apply performance management and development skills.
  • Lead and coordinate quality management projects and internal auditing to ensure continuous best practice and improvement, under the general direction of the Planning and Quality Management manager.
  • Coordinate risk assessments of all high-risk detections, develop program responses to address infestations of risk and provide these recommendations to the Sites of Significance Committee and management for decision.
  • Negotiate, schedule, and manage delivery of project outputs within allocated resources, ensuring that the deliverables meet the requirements and expectations of business stakeholders and are consistent with the approved business case/project plan and with DAF and whole-of-government policies.
  • Review Program operational processes to identify opportunities to improve effectiveness, efficiency and achieve quality outcomes and coordinate updates to relevant policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Work collaboratively within the Program and maintain productive relationships to ensure quality outcomes are delivered, in particular to rectify treatment and surveillance gaps, respond to high-risk detections of fire ants based on scientific advice, and maintain/oversee review and implementation of the Program's suite of controlled documents.
  • Inform management and relevant stakeholders (e.g. policy managers) with timely, high level, expert and authoritative advice on operations issues and options based on rigorous analysis of relevant information.
  • Oversee support for the onboarding, mentoring, and upskilling of operational staff.
  • Oversee the compilation of data from business systems and in-field assessments in line with the approved internal audit schedule and undertake analysis to inform managers' deliberations about business performance and possibilities for improvement.
  • Support operational managers and other business stakeholders to manage risks and ensure process changes are negotiated and managed to deliver improvements.
  • Contribute to the development and communication of strategies, policies, procedures and plans to promote best practice in business processes to support efficiency at all levels of the business enterprise.
