This world class refinery is a leader in advanced zinc refining technology. They produce Special High Grade Zinc metal, Zinc Alloy metal, and by-products such as Sulphuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite. Their sophisticated processes includes Roasting, Leaching, Purification, Electrolysis, and Casting, serving both domestic and international markets.
Our client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Process Safety Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in promoting a safe workplace by identifying process hazards, evaluating risks, and assisting in the development of effective risk mitigation strategies.
This role also ensures legal compliance and drives initiatives aimed at reducing risk impacts on the business while optimising organisational performance.
Key Responsibilities: - Conduct process safety reviews and develop recommendations for addressing safety issues
- Provide risk assessments using techniques such as HAZOP and LOPA
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
- Recommend safety features to reduce employees' exposure to hazards
- Compile, analyse, and interpret statistical data related to safety incidents and occupational illnesses
- Coach plant personnel on identifying and resolving safety issues
Effective communication is essential in this position, as the Process Safety Engineer will need to convey changes to procedures, practices, or products to management and employees.
The role involves engaging with stakeholders to promote and maintain safety activities, investigating incidents, reporting findings, and recommending necessary actions. Additionally, the engineer will promote incident prevention initiatives and provide quality safety training and resources to enhance management effectiveness.
Qualifications: - Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety or Process Engineering
- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) for relevant engineering qualifications, desirable.
- Thorough understanding of health and safety management principles and practices
- Familiarity with relevant legislation and standards
- Strong research, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build rapport at all organisational levels
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong project management skills and the ability to develop policies and procedures
Previous experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs in an industrial, processing, or mining environment is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong initiative, the ability to achieve targets and timeframes, and the capability to influence planning and performance improvements through effective advice and coaching.
