Department of Education Procurement Construction Sourcing team conducts the end-to-end procurement process to support the School Infrastructure team. The School Infrastructure team is delivering new school buildings, major upgrades and maintenance strategies to ensure every early-learning and school aged child has access to high quality education facilities at their local public school. This encompasses the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.

About the role

We’re seeking an experienced Procurement Officer to drive end-to-end procurement planning, sourcing, tendering, evaluation, and contract awards to support best practice for Construction related procurements —delivering best value and alignment with business goals in a complex operating landscape.

This Procurement Officer role sits within the Construction Sourcing team in Procurement under Operations Group, Department of Education.

What you’ll do

• Lead, coordinate, and manage full procurement lifecycle: planning, sourcing, tendering, evaluation, and contract awards to support best practice and business outcomes.


• Ensure strict compliance with departmental and NSW Procurement policies, procedures, and regulations.


• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, providing expert guidance on procurement best practices and risk mitigation.


• Maintain proactive, effective supplier communications at all key stages of procurement process.


• Identify and mitigate procurement risks related to cost, quality, delivery, and compliance.


• Monitor, maintain and report on procurement activities, and outcomes to ensure transparency, compliance and accountability.


• Manage confidential procurement information and ensure adherence to privacy and organisational reporting standards.


• Identify opportunities and implement improvements to procurement processes and practices to ensure efficiency and best value.


• Conduct thorough quality assurance checks on own procurement documentation and processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with departmental policies and project objectives; and balance competing priorities and tight deadlines in a complex environment.


• Guide project teams in adopting best practices, staying current with NSW Government procurement policies, systems, procedures and legislation including probity.

About you

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Experience managing end-to-end procurement processes, including drafting and reviewing procurement documentation, facilitating evaluation processes, and ensuring compliance


• Experience in organising and facilitating evaluation meetings and stakeholder engagement.


• Ability to operate under time pressure, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining integrity and compliance; delivering outcomes within deadlines.


• Ability in maintaining accurate records and reporting on procurement activity.


• Knowledge of best practice and continuous improvement in procurement processes.


• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of NSW Government procurement policies, systems, procedures and legislation including probity.


• Strong stakeholder management and excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex procurement concepts into actionable guidance.


• Exceptional attention to detail, quality assurance capabilities, and a track record of achieving value for money.


• Demonstrated ability to identify risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.


• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in procurement, contract management or a related discipline and/or equivalent relevant work experience. 


• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
