Product Engineer

Kalogon, an early stage startup based in Melbourne, seeks a motivated Product Engineer to help us as we expand our product line into new markets, further our award-winning product Orbiter, and grow our newer products, Booster and Orbiter Med. This newly created role would work closely with the early-stage development teams and cross-functionally with production, product, and other internal stakeholders to ensure our product visions are brought to life through solid design for manufacture and process development.

Key Responsibilities

• Transition prototypes to final producible designs, with buy-in from all key stakeholders
• Solve technical and emergent issues in the manufacturing environment manufacturing systems
• Independently design production tooling and create processes for successful bring-up of new production capabilities.
• Manage supply chain of internal components on new and existing products
• Develop work instructions for assembly of new products
• Create new processes for evaluating product quality at scale
• Evaluate existing manufacturing processes to identify and correct production inefficiencies
• Determine requirements for quality inspections and control processes, as well as methods for containing non-conforming hardware
• Responsible for designing enclosures for new products
• Use design for manufacturing best practices for injection molding to develop producible enclosures for mass production
• Responsible for creating work instructions for assembling new and existing products

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering B.S. or equivalent
• At least 3 years of experience and able to excel in this role
• Previous experience in product development for medical devices. aerospace, or automotive industry highly desired
• Proficient in CAD software such as Solidworks, OnShape, Siemens NX, PTC Creo
• Previous experience converting a finalized design to injection moldable products

Mainly works with: Engineering, Product, Production, Clinical Research, Marketing, Business Development, Sales

Kalogon is an early stage startup based in Melbourne, FL that has won CES and SXSW awards for our smart seating solution for wheelchair users, and who is rapidly developing solutions for anyone who sits for long periods of time.

Kalogon’s first product is a smart cushion, Orbiter, that relieves pain and fatigue experienced by individuals who use wheelchairs. Orbiter leverages our patent-pending core technologies: an air management system, a dynamic motion AI, and custom molding. These technologies help to improve blood flow while seated, ultimately promoting good tissue health, lessening fatigue, and increasing comfort.

For our first customers, wheelchair users, we are focused on alleviating pressure injuries. Kalogon has three products for wheelchair users, Orbiter, Orbiter Med, and Booster. We have trials running with the US Air Force for B-52 pilots, a commercial aviation proof of concept, and an automotive test currently in flight.
