Production Engineer

Our client, a global quant trading firm, is looking for a Production Engineer for their Sydney office (AUS). This is a unique opportunity to work directly with traders, technologists, and quantitative researchers to build, monitor, and support the production environment on a highly automated trading desk. This role is heavily hands-on with Linux/Unix systems, where you will develop tooling to ensure stability, performance, and reliability across a complex, distributed environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Linux/Unix systems and proficiency in scripting languages, with experience supporting production and mission-critical systems in a fast-paced environment. In addition, the candidate will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to swiftly communicate and troubleshoot complex system-level issues under pressure.

In this role, you will:

• Design and develop Python and Bash scripts to monitor the health, performance, and dependencies of a mission-critical production environment
• Monitor and support a highly distributed Linux-based trading system
• Partner with the Platform Engineering team on server imaging, testing, deployment, and system configuration
• Act as a key liaison between the trading desk and network, security, market data, and platform teams on production issues and new system setups
• Provide multi-level production support for traders, strategists, and quantitative researchers
• Help improve system reliability, automation, and operational efficiency across the trading stack

Qualifications:

• Strong, hands-on experience with Linux/Unix systems (essential) - this role is deeply OS-focused
• Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly Python and Bash, required
• Experience supporting production or mission-critical systems in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with traders, quants, and engineers
• Ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues under pressure
