Production Support Engineer

A leading quantitative investment manager operating at the intersection of data, research, and technology. This is a highly technical, engineering-driven environment where trading systems, data platforms, and infrastructure are treated as mission-critical products. The firm runs globally distributed systems across multiple asset classes, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on Production Engineer role embedded within a high-performance trading environment in Sydney. You’ll operate across trading infrastructure and data platforms, owning the stability and performance of systems that directly impact live trading.

The role blends production support with engineering: diagnosing complex issues in real time while building automation and tooling to eliminate them permanently. You’ll work closely with traders, quants, and engineers, gaining deep exposure to how systematic trading systems operate end-to-end.

1. Own production environments supporting trading systems and data platforms, ensuring high availability and performance
2. Troubleshoot real-time issues across trading applications, data pipelines, and infrastructure
3. Perform pre-market system checks and proactively identify risks before trading begins
4. Partner with developers and trading teams to resolve pre-trade and production issues
5. Support application releases, including deployment validation and rollback strategies
6. Build automation tools for monitoring, alerting, and operational workflows
7. Improve data integrity processes across static and real-time datasets
8. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, cloud initiatives, and system optimisation projects
9. Lead root cause analysis for incidents and implement long-term fixes
10. Maintain clear operational documentation and adhere to production best practices

1. 3+ years in production support, SRE, or systems engineering (ideally in trading, fintech, or low-latency environments)
2. Strong scripting ability in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
3. Solid experience across Linux and Windows environments
4. Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL, SQL Server or similar) with experience debugging data issues
5. Experience supporting trading systems, market data, or financial infrastructure
6. Ability to diagnose complex, cross-system issues under pressure
7. Strong communication skills with a high level of ownership
