Project Architect - Critical Facilities

Gensler’s Critical Facilities team is looking for a Project Architect to join our team. We are looking for a candidate with experience in design and delivery of high-tech, new construction architecture projects—whether for national labs, data centers, or other complex designs. You will be a key team member to help expand our presence in Australia and the region, working with our global and regional leaders to lead internal project teams and grow client  relationships.  The  ideal  candidate will be adept in the design and technical elements of project delivery. 

As a Gensler Project Architect, you will collaborate with a team of architects and designers to develop design solutions as well as coordinate the design through the construction administration phase of a project. You will be successful in translating sketches and documents into realized 3D models and working drawings and you can research technical issues when they arise. What You Will Do 

• Develop the design and delivery of the architectural and/or technical aspects of a project.   

• Possess knowledge of architectural design principals, technical details, codes, and material characteristics.   

• Participate in all project phases, with a primary focus on design development, construction documents and construction administration.   

• Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies, and other vendors to meet overall project objectives.   

• Produce BIM models and construction drawings.  

• Resolve challenging technical and design issues with the team to produce innovative, technical, constructible solutions.   

• Support project sustainability targets throughout project phases and actively engage in delivering them.   

• Study sustainable design strategies in every project stage and investigate solutions to sustainable design challenges.   

• Work collaboratively with the team to optimize sustainability performance through design iterations and research.   

• Coordinate external stake holders such as engineers, manufacturers, and local authorities.  

• Be an advocate for Gensler sustainability commitments internally and externally. 

• Contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs.

Your Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, or equivalent 

• Min. 5 years of related project experience, especially in data centers or other critical facilities projects. 

• Effective communicator, collaborative, and team conscious.   

• Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, grace, and emotional intelligence.   

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.   

• Strong proficiency with Revit experience desired, BIM360 

• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) Microsoft Office experience desired. Sketchup, Rhino, Enscape, VRay are also beneficial. 

• Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and parametric design software, including Grasshopper, a plus 

• Knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and building codes specific to core and shell architecture is . 

• Extensive experience in construction document preparation, including detailing and field observation. 

• Essential knowledge of applicable engineering disciplines.
