Decisive IT consultants are physically based in multiple Australian States including QLD, NSW and WA. Our consultants generally work remotely, however occasional travel may be required to project site.

About the Role
 

Decisive IT are searching for a Construction Project Manager to join our team within the new build space. You will be involved in projects for our client, an ASX-100 technology infrastructure company, with project values typically in the range of $30M - $300M. 

As a Decisive IT Consultant you shall represent our client and actively engage and collaborate in an interactive process with the clients consultant design team, Principal Contractors, and client stakeholders including senior management, 

The Project Manager plays a critical role in the ability to achieve the project goals by understanding how design & construction integrates to deliver a buildable, operable, maintainable, and sustainable building solution. 

The Project Manager will provide client-side specialist assistance and direction to the project team, to achieve the end-to-end implementation of the new customer ready solutions. 

The Project Manager is responsible for running the design phase of the project through its lifecycle of setup, planning, execution, monitoring & controlling and closing. 

The role will also manage the procurement of the Principal Contractor, and remaining consultants.

The Project Manager is responsible for managing the review process for consultant and contractor designs with the client design stakeholders and working with consultants and contractors to implement and test the designs to the satisfaction of the client. It is the Project Manager’s role to communicate changes to all stakeholders whether internally or externally.

Along with monitoring & controlling the construction phase and actively planning and executing the commissioning of the completed building, the Project Manager will ensure all end client handover requirements are met.

Other responsibilities will include: 

  • Leading the project team and ensuring quality delivery of planning and scheduling according to project requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Project Brief and Business Case that have been endorsed by the clients Executive.
  • Confident/thorough reporting and communications to provide trust and satisfaction to all stakeholders.
  • Ensuring project documents are complete and to document control standards.
  • Leading by example and continually promoting relevant aspects of Zero Harm when engaging with operational teams.
  • Contributing to the development of project strategy, business plan and budget.
  • Allocating resources within budget and quality standards, setting goals.
  • Coordinating consultants and specialist functions and managing interdisciplinary interactions.
  • Collaborating with Principal Contractor for positive outcomes.
  • Reviewing progress against plans, ensuring quality, schedule, and costs align.
  • Ensuring strong financial management and project change control.
  • Monitoring and coordinating client staff resources, fostering high performance.

About You

You will be required to assist our client in steering through the project from start to finish and help the client through project challenges with proactive project management skills. Ideally, you are someone who enjoys working on a construction project and has ample experience and confidence in this field.

You will have broad and coherent theoretical and technical knowledge with depth in the disciplines of project management, design management, planning, cost management, and construction or fitout techniques.

You will have excellent organisational, verbal and writing skills and confidence in executing what needs to be done on a daily basis. 

You are someone who understands the importance of teamwork.

You prefer to proactively look for solutions rather than waiting for the answer to come.

 You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of the following specific skills and experience:
 

  • 5+ years of experience working in Construction as a Project Manager.
  • Tertiary degree, preferably Construction Management, Project Management or Engineering or significant "on the job" experience.
  • PMI-PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent.
  • New build or fitout experience on a range of projects.
  • Experience managing new-build projects upwards of $30m
  • Knowledge and experience of the RIBA Plan of Work framework.
  • Demonstrate leadership in health, safety, environment, quality risk and compliance.
  • Commitment to WHS.
  • Excellent ability to facilitate meetings and workshops.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication & people management skills.
  • Experienced in complex client and stakeholder relationship management with the ability to engage with key stakeholders up and downstream.
  • Experience in the procurement process and tendering for Principal Contractor.
  • Strong understanding of contractual, legal, and commercial compliance.
  • Expertise in financial management, including cost reduction and budget adherence.
  • Familiarity with various contract types, including Managing Contractor and Design & Construct.
  • Experienced in the development and presentation of regular project reporting,
  • Ability to work alongside a Project Scheduler who will be responsible for managing the project schedule.
