About the Organisation:
A prominent government department is seeking motivated professionals to join a dynamic team as a EL1 Project Manager. This department promotes and protects the nation’s international interests to support security and prosperity, working collaboratively with global partners to address challenges, enhance trade and investment opportunities, and support citizens abroad.
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled EL1 Project Managers with a strong background in construction management and security infrastructure. This role involves managing the delivery of security upgrade projects, ensuring compliance with building regulations and security measures, and maintaining the integrity of the project design.

APS Level : EL1 Project Manager 
Location:  Canberra, ACT
Contract Duration: 12 Months + 12 Months
Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership, direction, and motivation to the project team.
  • Ensure deliverable meet the required quality standards and project objectives.
  • Manage project schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Integrate project management stakeholders across all project phases.
  • Liaise with project customers, stakeholders, and governance bodies to achieve project objectives.
  • Manage project scope, risks, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Oversee the design and documentation process through all project phases: Initiation, Design and Document, Delivery, Handover/Transition to Operation (HOTO), and Defects Liability Period (DLP).
  • Coordinate and prepare regular progress reports and stakeholder communications.
  • Establish and maintain project administration systems, document control, and record management processes.
  • Develop and manage project documentation, including risk and communication plans.
  • Monitor project costs and implement contingency management strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and legislative obligations.
  • Liaise with suppliers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Manage the risk management process and develop contingency plans.
  • Coordinate handover and completion activities and documentation.
  • Identify and document lessons learned during the project.
 
 
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Strong ability to liaise with key stakeholders and develop project briefs.
  • Proven experience in delivering construction and physical security infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in procurement of consultants and contractors for security projects.
  • Ability to review design documentation for consistency and security component implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify issues and re-prioritise tasks as needed.
  • Capability to develop statements of work for external contractors and draft contract work orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and monitor project budgets.
  • Flexibility to undertake site visits as required.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience in managing security components of projects.
  • Experience in managing minor works and construction projects.
  • Experience in delivering and coordinating security-related fit outs for domestic and overseas refurbishments and relocations.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) plans and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
  • Understanding of National Construction Code (NCC) compliance for construction works.
  • Ability to review and update “as built” documentation and drawings.
  • Experience in reviewing architectural designs and engineering documentation.
