Project Officer Emergency Management

(MIS22084)

Fixed term opportunity for up to 12 months with the possibility for extension and/or permanency

In this role, you will be contributing to the safety of the community by undertaking a range of emergency management activities including planning and operations.

Would you like to work in a genuinely exciting, flexible and friendly work environment, which offers its people a range of benefits, including flexible working hours, working at home, in the field or in the office to help support you and get the best results possible for our community. Then the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) is for you!

Here at DEMIRS we value diversity and appreciate every individual’s perspective, bringing together a diverse and inclusive workforce to drive innovation and success. So, if you’re an innovative and forward-thinking individual who values collaboration and wants to contribute to the next big discovery in the mining sector, protecting our workers’ health and safety, protecting tenants and consumers, transforming energy supply and emissions, whilst rolling out new technology to deliver excellent customer service and achieve success, then DEMIRS is the agency for you.

The role

Our Energy Policy Group provides advice to the government of Western Australia and Minister for Energy to facilitate the delivery of secure, reliable, sustainable, and affordable energy services. They also promote innovation and application of new technology throughout the energy sector. Key to this role is the Coordinator of Energy’s legislated role as Hazard Management Agency (HMA) for energy supply disruptions in the State of Western Australia.

As a Project Officer Emergency Management, your remit will be to undertake a range of emergency management activities including intelligence gathering and analysis, monitoring and reporting on emergency management policy timeframes and actively participating in emergency management planning and operations.

The position operates within the relatively small Emergency Management team. This team prides itself on taking a people-first approach to the workplace and aims to provide a friendly, supportive working environment that is committed to empowering its team members to reach their full potential.

Day-to-day you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of people, including other internal teams within the Energy Policy group, State and Commonwealth Government agencies and energy sector participants and research groups. Strong relationship management and communication skills will be essential, as well as the ability to assess multiple streams of information and distil them into succinct emergency briefings and situation reports.

The typical workday in the Emergency Management team will be dynamic. In addition to providing a daily written briefing on the risk outlook for the electricity, gas and liquid fuels sectors to our executive leadership team, you may be involved in a range of other activities. These may include the design and delivering of emergency exercises, developing response plans and procedures as part of our continuous lessons management process, attending working group meetings on topics such as energy security, emergency management or cyber security and providing support for live incidents managed by the Coordinator of Energy or other HMAs.

As part of the Energy Policy Group, ultimately, you actively contribute to driving meaningful change to the way people can use, generate, buy and sell electricity, and working for a brighter energy future.

Please refer to the Job Description Form (JDF) attached for further information regarding the position, including any specific requirements, capabilities and pre-employment checks which will be assessed as part of the selection process.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

This role is located in the Perth CBD , at 66 St Georges Terrace.
