Job Description - Regional Mechanical Engineer

At UGL, we work on challenging and rewarding projects that help power Australia's energy future. We bring together diverse expertise to solve complex engineering challenges, foster innovation, and deliver sustainable outcomes for our customers.

As part of our Fuels & Energy business, you'll join a highly experienced engineering team responsible for supporting some of Australia's most critical fuel storage and terminal assets. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging Mechanical Engineer looking to take the next step in their career and gain exposure to asset integrity, reliability, engineering projects and technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of operational facilities.

Based in Brisbane and supporting sites across Eastern Australia, this role offers a unique combination of office-based engineering, site engagement, asset improvement initiatives and project development activities.

About the Role

Reporting to the Fuels & Energy Engineering Team, the Regional Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in supporting the reliability, integrity and performance of critical fuel and energy infrastructure assets across Eastern Australia.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct asset condition assessments and develop practical engineering solutions to improve asset performance and reliability
  • Develop scopes of work and technical packages for asset improvement, renewal and modification projects
  • Provide mechanical engineering advice and technical support to operational and project delivery teams
  • Support tank inspections, integrity assessments and turnaround activities across customer sites
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, risk reduction and asset optimisation
  • Ensure engineering activities are delivered in accordance with relevant standards, legislation and UGL HSSE requirements

About You

This opportunity is ideally suited to a Mechanical Engineer with 5–8 years' experience who is looking to broaden their exposure across asset engineering, reliability, integrity and project delivery within the energy sector.

You will bring:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • 5–8 years' experience within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Energy, Resources, Manufacturing or Heavy Industrial sectors
  • Sound knowledge of mechanical equipment including pumps, piping systems, valves, pressure equipment and storage tanks
  • Experience supporting operational assets, engineering projects, reliability or integrity programs
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team

Exposure to fuel terminals, bulk hydrocarbon storage facilities or petrochemical assets will be highly regarded but is not essential.

What We Offer

  • Diverse opportunities to grow, back yourself and achieve
  • The chance to join a Tier 1 organisation owned by the CIMIC Group, one of the world's leading international contractors
  • Exposure to critical energy infrastructure and major industrial assets across Eastern Australia
  • Clear career development pathways and the opportunity to shape your own professional journey
  • A culture that values innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • The opportunity to work alongside highly experienced engineers and industry specialists

What Makes You Right for UGL

  • A genuine commitment to safety and operational excellence
  • The ability to contribute to a safe, supportive and positive workplace
  • The capacity to thrive in a high-performance environment
  • An innovative mindset and willingness to challenge the status quo
  • A belief that success is built through teamwork, collaboration and shared accountability
