Registered Midwife (Grade 2), Maternity Services

Are you passionate about empowering women and families through one of life's most important journeys?

We're searching for dedicated Midwives to join our growing service, where you'll make a genuine difference every day while working alongside experienced professionals who are committed to delivering exceptional, woman-centred care

  • Join us at an exciting time: With the opening of our new Women and Children's Building on the horizon, you'll have the opportunity to help shape a contemporary maternity service from day one

  • Advance your career:  through access to professional development opportunities, ongoing education, and the support of a collaborative team within Victoria's largest regional health service

  • Experience genuine work–life balance:  flexible work options: permanent, temporary and casual opportunities available

About the Role

As a Midwife, you'll provide evidence-based, woman-centred care across the maternity continuum. Working closely with obstetricians, nurses, allied health professionals, and fellow midwives, you'll contribute to a culture of excellence, respect, and continuous improvement.

Tailor your midwifery practice by choosing to work in the Birthing Suite, the Postnatal Ward, or enjoy the variety of rotating between both clinical settings.

Why You'll Love Working With Us

Supportive Team Culture – Be part of a welcoming, collaborative team that values your knowledge, celebrates your successes, and supports your professional growth.

Meaningful Work – Build lasting relationships with women and their families while providing compassionate care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.

Professional Development – Expand your skills through ongoing education, mentoring, and opportunities to further your career.

  • Expand your autonomy and clinical skills at University Hospital Geelong, including ARMs, FSE attachment, speculum exams, cervidil and CRB insertion, IV cannulation and perineal suturing — supporting true continuity of care.

  • Achieve Water Birth competency, with water immersion and water birth options available.

  • Access five days per week of dedicated clinical education and support, plus funded training including FSEP and PROMPT.

Make an Impact – Every shift is an opportunity to provide safe, high-quality care and create positive birth experiences for families.

 Key responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based, woman-centred care across the full continuum of pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period.

  • Undertake comprehensive maternal and neonatal assessments, planning, implementing and evaluating care within your scope of practice.

  • Support normal birth while recognising and responding promptly to clinical deterioration or obstetric and neonatal emergencies.

  • Administer medications and intravenous therapies in accordance with legislation, policies and professional standards.

  • Promote informed decision-making by educating and empowering women and their families.

  • Collaborate effectively with obstetric, neonatal and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal clinical outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and comply with Victorian legislative and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in quality improvement, education and professional development to uphold best practice standards.

What we’re looking for

  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife (or dual Registered Nurse/Midwife) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • A minimum of 12 months experience across the maternity continuum, with sound knowledge of contemporary midwifery practice and woman-centred care.

  • Compassionate, respectful and family-focused approach, with a strong commitment to cultural safety and dignity.

  • Highly organised, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
