Job Description - Registered Nurse - Theater Scrub

Job Title: Theatre Scrub Nurse

Location: Various Locations Across Australia

Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Theatre Scrub Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. As a Theatre Scrub Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality perioperative care. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring the efficient and safe execution of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Surgical Procedures: Prepare and maintain the sterile field and ensure all necessary equipment and instruments are available before and during the procedure.
  • Prepare the Operating Room: Set up and sterilise operating room equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with established protocols and infection control practices.
  • Maintain Sterility: Vigilantly monitor and maintain sterile conditions throughout the surgical procedure, ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene standards.
  • Collaborate with the Surgical Team: Work closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective communication and efficient workflow during surgeries.
  • Manage Surgical Instruments: Handle and manage surgical instruments and supplies with precision, ensuring they are ready and in optimal condition for use.
  • Monitor Patient Safety: Assist in positioning and prepping patients for surgery, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
  • Documentation: Accurately document surgical procedures, instrument counts, and any incidents or irregularities.
  • Adhere to Protocols: Follow hospital policies, protocols, and safety guidelines to ensure the highest standard of care.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Licensure: Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in theatre scrub nursing or similar surgical settings.
  • Certification: Certification in perioperative nursing is highly desirable.
  • Vaccinations: Up-to-date with annual flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Work Rights: Must have full work rights in Australia.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Clinical Skills: Expertise in maintaining a sterile field, handling surgical instruments, and assisting with various surgical procedures.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with surgeons and other team members.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with operating room equipment and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of surgical protocols, infection control practices, and patient safety measures.
  • Cultural Competency: Experience working in a multicultural environment and awareness of cultural considerations in patient care.
