About the role

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Regulatory Communications and Engagement Officer to support communication, education and stakeholder engagement activities that promote awareness and compliance with the not-for-profit requirements of the Education Act 1990 (NSW) for non-government schools.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of regulation, education and communications, developing subject matter expertise in a complex regulatory environment and translating legislative  requirements into practical guidance for schools and stakeholders.

You will contribute to meaningful work that supports transparency, compliance and informed decision-making across the non-government school sector while working closely with subject matter experts, senior stakeholders and representative bodies.

On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for:

• Developing clear, engaging and audience-focused communication materials across a range of channels, including web content, guidance materials, fact sheets, case studies and educational resources.


• Supporting communication and education initiatives that improve stakeholder awareness and understanding of regulatory obligations.


• Researching and analysing stakeholder enquiries, feedback and regulatory issues to inform communications, advice and continuous improvement activities.


• Preparing high-quality briefing materials, correspondence, reports and documentation for the Non-Government Schools Not-for-profit Advisory Committee and senior stakeholders.


• Supporting stakeholder engagement activities, including newsletters, presentations, events and communications for schools and peak representative bodies.


• Working collaboratively with subject matter experts to ensure information is accurate, practical and aligned with regulatory objectives.


• Maintaining accurate records, information systems and documentation, including the use of records management systems such as TRIM.


• Responding to stakeholder enquiries with a professional, educative and customer-focused approach.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• Experience developing communication and engagement materials that translate complex legislation, and regulatory requirements into practical and accessible guidance.


• Strong written communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality web content, stakeholder communications, briefing materials, reports and educational resources.


• Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information and data to provide evidence-based advice and support the delivery  of effective communication solutions.


• Experience building productive relationships with stakeholders and communicating effectively on complex, sensitive or potentially contentious regulatory compliance matters.


• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.


• Experience monitoring stakeholder feedback, enquiries and engagement trends to identify opportunities for targeted communications and continuous improvement.


• Experience maintaining accurate records and information management practices, ideally including the use of electronic records management systems such as TRIM.


• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of education.

Note: A current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance for paid employment is required before commencing in this role. It is not required at the application stage. The cost of the WWCC clearance is the responsibility of the successful applicant.
