About the Role

Merici College is seeking a Religion and Physical Education (PE) Teacher. Ideally, the successful candidate will bring excellent teaching skills as well as very good curriculum knowledge. An excellent understanding of the Religion and PE Curriculum is also desired as the school is committed to a journey that sees the implementation of the Religion and PE Curriculum through an inquiry perspective. The successful candidate will join a strong, supportive, and committed Leadership Team committed to the well-being and growth of all staff and students.

  • Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide an optimal learning environment for students to achieve excellence
  • Cater for a range of individual needs and learning styles.
  • As part of a team design, document and deliver courses that engage students in learning and incorporate the Powerful Learning Principles.
  • Use ICT in the classroom to enhance learning
  • Provide regular ongoing feedback on student coursework via the timely return of marked work along with constructive feedback that allows the student to reflect on what they have achieved and know how they can improve
  • Monitor and regularly record student results via electronic spreadsheets and report on student progress in learning
  • Provide prompt and timely follow-up with parents, students, and staff
  • Qualifications

  • Hold a Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration. 
  • Hold a Teaching Quality Institute (TQI) accreditation. 
  • Tertiary educational qualifications in the subject area and willingness to teach in more than one subject area
  • To teach Religious Education in a Catholic school (to be a Religious Education Teacher), an employee must:

  • Have completed 6 undergraduate subjects or 4 postgraduate subjects
  • Must be Catholic
  • Must have completed, be due to completed, or have a willingness to complete Accreditation D – Teach Religious Education in a Catholic school.
  • Selection Criteria 

  • A willingness to lead, with support, the implementation and development of an inquiry approach to the teaching of Religious and PE Education.
  • An ability to model excellent classroom practices.
  • An ability to form and maintain good relationships.
  • An ability to work collaboratively in team environments.
  • A strong commitment to the Catholic Ethos of the school and a demonstrated ability to foster it in the community
  • Will be a practicing Catholic who contributes in a significant way to the Catholic life of the school.

  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position.
