Minderoo Advocacy & Engagement Enables Minderoo to strategically support, defend or advocate for its causes, appropriately influencing decisions across political, economic, community, and social institutions. Targeted advocacy, engagement with key stakeholders, including policymakers and government agencies, and strategic communications are crucial for advancing our strategic goals. The 2030 Strategy also places a heightened focus on the role of Advocacy & Engagement in building the capacity of our partners and the broader for-purpose sector, to accelerate impact. 

Reporting to the Director, Advocacy you will have an important role to role model collaboration, value alignment, best practice and an impact focus outcome orientation, creating and supporting a high performing team working productively and efficiently. Focusing where applicable on partners, stakeholders and beneficiaries to develop and execute a content strategy aligned with Minderoo’s strategic goals.

As the Senior Advisor, Advocacy, you are charged with building and actioning impactful advocacy strategies and plans that enable the Focus Areas and their bodies of work, as well as the broader interests of Minderoo.  

With a robust and holistic understanding of systems change, you use your extensive experience, contacts and your understanding of policy and stakeholder landscapes to benefit Minderoo, its partners and the communities it supports.

Day to day, you act as both a leader and as a team player, working collaboratively with your Enabler and Focus Area colleagues to foster a culture of empowerment that gets things done to the highest level.  Using a spectrum of advocacy techniques, such as campaigning, communications, policy development and stakeholder relations, you lead your team to constantly deliver measurable results. You do this with a deep sensitivity and respect for the cultures, people and communities in which Minderoo operates, putting their best interests at the heart of what you do and how you do it.

Reporting to the Director, Advocacy, you have a curious mindset with visionary qualities and can also delicately manage multiple stakeholders with competing interests. You have a knack for ensuring plans are seamlessly executed and have a passion for empowering others, bringing a can-do attitude to every challenge. You also consider the entire channel when planning – including risk, reputation and nuance.

About you 

• Strong leadership skills with demonstrated extensive experience in a senior advocacy or related role.
• Proven ability to develop and implement effective advocacy strategies and campaigns that drive systemic change.
• Experience engaging diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, NGOs, academics, and the private sector.
• Experience in government relations and engagement combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively convey complex issues to various audiences.
• Demonstrated knowledge of related issues and understanding of the complexity and challenges associated with Advocacy. 
• Proven ability to problem-solve complex social, economic and or environmental problems and influence the agents of change for the benefit of our beneficiaries.
• Can identify and utilise internal strengths to pivot when a particular approach is not working and adapt plans to foster a One Minderoo Culture.
• Tertiary degree in International Relations, Public Policy, Communications, or a related field.
