An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer/Senior Research Officer to join the Callegari Lab in the Ubiquitin Signalling Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
An exciting opportunity exists for a structural biology Research Officer/Senior Research Officer, with strong Cryo-EM experience, to work with Dr. Sylvie Callegari within the Ubiquitin Signalling Division. The Callegari lab uses state-of-the-art technology, to advance studies relating to mitochondrial quality control in disease processes and as a potential target for drug treatments. The lab is embedded in the Ubiquitin Signalling Division, providing a vibrant, multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative environment at the forefront of ubiquitin research. The Institute provides access to state-of-the art imaging, proteomics and drug discovery facilities.
The ideal candidate will have experience in multiple aspects of protein biochemistry including protein expression and purification, structural biology, Cryo-EM and/or Cryo-ET. Prior experience in mammalian expression systems and membrane proteins is highly desirable.
The role of the Research Officer/Senior Research Officer is to contribute to the research effort and further develop their research expertise through the pursuit of projects within defined research programs. The successful candidate will report to Sylvie Callegari and will contribute to a highly collaborative multi-disciplinary research effort involving multiple laboratories in the Ubiquitin Signalling Division.
Selection Criteria
Essential knowledge and skills
Possess a PhD in a relevant discipline.
Research experience that has led to at least one 1st author publication in a peer reviewed journal in the field of biochemistry, structure and function.
Demonstratable knowledge and experience in sample preparation, data collection and processing of Cryo-EM data.
Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.
Effective time management skills and ability to work on several projects in parallel.
Strong communication skills, written and oral, and an ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical researchers.
Key Responsibilities
Optimising, generating and preparing samples for Cryo-EM analysis.
Operation of Cryo-EM equipment, data collection and processing
Preparation of manuscripts.
Communicating analysis results and methodologies to technical and non-technical researchers.
Developing statistical and computational methods to enable these analyses.
Benchmarking of technologies and analysis methods to develop technology recommendations and best-practice data analysis workflows.
Terms of Appointment
This position is 2 years in a full-time capacity. Salary is Research Employee Level A ($104,071-$111,707) or Level B ($117,596-$139,636).
