This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 200 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally. About the role DroneShield is seeking a Team Lead - Electronics with relevant experience to join the team in Sydney, Australia. The position will report to the Embedded Hardware Manager. The core challenge of the role is to lead a team of Electronic and RF Engineers to develop world class electronics used in electronic detection and warfare products. Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations The RF Electronics Team Lead has an expectation of both individual contribution and management of the RF Electronics Engineers working with in the team. Technical Management: Lead a team of Electronic and RF engineers to design and develop Electronic Hardware Liaise with suppliers to support the procurement process and enforce quality control procedures. Project Planning of individual work packages and task allocation to the individual engineers according prioritise set within the business roadmap. Work with management on the Identification of resource shortcomings and s planning and work with management to ensure that the team has adequate coverage. Identify areas sound industry practices for documentation and QC ensuring alignment and consistency with other team leads and departments. Scale the R&D, development, verification, and validation infrastructure using industry best practise product development lifecycle methodologies. Individual Contribution: Optimise the core of DroneShield’s technology for accuracy, performance, stability, and maintenance. Self-managing workload (prioritisation) and workflow to meet key business objectives. Schematic and PCB design using Altium, including maintenance of component database and document templates. Hardware design for manufacturing, EMC and reliability. Proficient with test equipment for validation of high-speed digital and RF interfaces. Manufacturing test specification design and support for production setup & debugging. Hardware design validation planning and execution on both a modular and system level. Hardware laboratory equipment organisation and maintenance. Qualifications, Experience and Skills BE/BS degree in Electronic Engineering, similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience. 10+ years of qualified experience working within an established team. 2-3 Years experience leading technical development projects or development teams Strong Experience using and designing automated Verification and Validation frameworks. Practical experience using benchtop test equipment such as high-speed oscilloscope, spectrum analyser and signal generators. SCH and PCB design using Altium. RF hardware design theory and experience. Isolation, matching networks, filter specifications, etc. Switch-mode power supply design experience. Hardware design principles for battery power device applications. Theoretical and practical understanding of PCB layout techniques for high-speed digital and RF circuitry. Familiarity of applicable global and local radio standards for intentional radiators. Working knowledge of Antennas. Desirable experiences and skills PMP Project Management Training Formal Agile Training/Certification RF filter specification and selection design experience RF power amplifier design experience. Leadership and direct management of Engineering product development teams Thermal management and thermal principles. Transmitter RF front-end design up to 10 GHz and 100 W. Component specification for RF components such as power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, solid-state switches, power dividers/combiners and couplers. Software Defined Radio experience. Knowledge of mainstream RF modulation techniques. Multi-carrier combining Design for receiver sensitivity principles such as cascaded noise figure, dynamic range, noise floor degradation and similar.
