About the Opportunity

We are excited to be recruiting to a new districtwide position at SWSLHD, which will make a difference to the lives of women with moderate to severe mental health issues!

The Safe Start Co-Ordinator will be based across our services in Liverpool, Campbelltown and Bankstown and will be responsible for the co-ordination of Safe Start screening and referral processes.

What You'll be Doing

This position works collaboratively with the District SAFE START Strategic Advisory committee on embedding the NSW Health SAFE START policy framework within SWS. The role supports the District SS Advisory Committee in the strategic coordination, monitoring and reporting of Multidisciplinary Case Discussion (MCD) meetings and Sector SAFE START Advisory committees. Provide consultation liaison to Maternity Services, Children Young People and Families Services, Mental Health Services, Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services, Violence Abuse and Neglect Services and Aboriginal Services to ensure compliance with Safe Start Policy.

  • Tertiary qualifications in health or social sciences relevant to Acute or Community Maternity, Child and Family Health, Drug and Alcohol, Violence Abuse and Neglect or Mental Health services and/or extensive experience working with vulnerable women and families, or a combination of study/relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding/experience of perinatal and infant mental health issues affecting parents and young children under 2 years of age.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex systems and negotiate with stakeholders regarding implementation of strategies for Policy implementation related to SAFE START - Supporting Families Early Package (SFE).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of SAFE START strategic priorities and reform agendas.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of effective clinical/service improvement frameworks.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, written & verbal communication skills and ability to work autonomously and part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated high level of cultural capability, leadership and collaborative practice relevant to supporting quality and culturally responsive service responses to Aboriginal clients, families and communities.
  • Must possess a valid Australian Drivers Licence (excluding learner driver's licences). If not already in possession, a NSW Drivers Licence must be obtained within 3 months of appointment.
