Who are we looking for?

We're looking for a Safety Advisor to work with our client Main Roads WA in Perth. 

This is a 6-month fixed-term contract, working 50 hours per week, fully seconded to Main Roads WA and supporting the delivery of infrastructure and maintenance activities across the road network. 

We're seeking a practical, site-focused safety professional who enjoys working alongside project teams, supervisors and contractors to help deliver work safely. You will be someone who can come in and hit the ground running, build trusted relationships, have meaningful safety conversations and influence positive outcomes on site.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Working with project teams and contractors to promote safe work practices across construction, maintenance and operational activities
• Providing practical WHS advice and guidance to supervisors, project managers and frontline personnel
• Supporting the identification, assessment and management of workplace risks before and during project delivery
• Facilitating toolbox talks, site briefings, inspections and safety conversations that drive positive safety outcomes
• Assisting with incident, hazard and near-miss investigations, including identifying causes and supporting corrective actions
• Reviewing contractor safety performance and helping ensure safety commitments are being met
• Contributing to the development and continuous improvement of safety systems, risk assessments and project safety documentation
• Monitoring safety performance trends and providing insights and recommendations to support ongoing improvement
• Building a positive safety culture through coaching, collaboration and visible field leadership 

What you will bring to the team:

• Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum requirement)
• Experience working in construction, civil infrastructure, road maintenance, mining, utilities or similar operational environments
• Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with contractors, supervisors and frontline workforces
• A practical, approachable and solutions-focused approach to safety
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and coach others
• Experience conducting site inspections, facilitating toolbox talks and supporting field-based teams
• Exposure to road construction or transport infrastructure projects will be highly regarded
• Previous experience within a government or government-related environment would be advantageous, but is not essential
• Diploma of Work Health and Safety and ICAM certification are highly desirable
