Safety Professional Transitional Project

Bundaberg Walkers Engineering Ltd (BWEL) is a long-established engineering firm with over 130 years of operation in regional Queensland. As we continue to modernise our systems and operations, we are seeking an experienced Safety Professional
to lead a strategic transition in our safety culture and compliance practices.

This newly created role is central to a time-sensitive transitional project, with an initial focus on achieving compliance and a longer-term vision for embedding health and wellness outcomes across the workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive compliance with WHS legislation and key safety processes, including systems modernisation.


• Lead project-based implementation activities, including coordination of external providers and consultants.


• Develop and track pragmatic safety performance indicators that support sustainable outcomes.


• Support and influence a cultural shift towards proactive, wellness-focused safety practices.


• Provide expert guidance on legislative changes and emerging safety obligations.


• Work collaboratively with leaders and employees to embed a continuous improvement mindset.

About You:

• Strong background in WHS, with experience delivering both compliance and cultural change.


• Skilled in transitional safety projects, stakeholder engagement and third-party management.


• Pragmatic approach to achieving outcomes and operational performance.


• Strategic thinker with practical implementation capability.


• Comfortable navigating both legacy systems and new approaches to safety and well-being.


• Passionate about modernising and building sustainable safety systems.
