About the Role
The ALS Environmental Division in Mudgee are seeking a highly organized Sample Receipt Officer to be the first point of contact in our busy lab. In this role, you’ll be responsible for receiving, sorting, and registering samples, liaising with clients, and ensuring smooth sample distribution.
You’ll also handle phone and email inquiries while maintaining accurate records. Ideal candidates have strong attention to detail, great communication skills, and a customer-focused mindset. TAFE or university qualifications are a plus but not essential.
This is a casual opportunity. Hours will most often be across 3 – 4 days, Monday to Friday between 9:00AM to 3:00PM.
The day to day
Greet and assist clients by phone and in person
Process incoming sample deliveries into the laboratory, including the sorting and labelling of samples
Read and understand client Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation, including analytical testing requirements
Accurately enter information from the client CoC documentation into the ALS LIMS system
Liaising with clients (internal and external) regarding sample submissions and related queries
Manually move samples and eskies around the laboratory utilizing provided equipment (typically around 15kg)
Maintaining an excellent standard of occupational health and safety
Maintaining a clean and tidy work environment
The Essentials:
A genuine interest in the Science industry
TAFE or university qualifications desirable but not essential.
Positive and responsive with a customer focus to deliver professional and quality service.
Superior attention to detail and a commitment to high quality work
Strong computer skills including MS Office suite
Ability to process multiple concurrent requests efficiently and accurately
An understanding of laboratory safety and chemical hazards would be beneficial but not critical
Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills
Ability to learn and retain high levels of information
