Job Description - Secretariat Officer - Join a Market Leader

We are seeking a capable Secretariat Officer to join our incredible team at NSW Aboriginal Land Council in Parramatta, Sydney NSW.

  • Fulltime Ongoing
  • Located at NSWALC Head office Parramatta
  • Salary Band - 4 with commencing salary $80,800 plus 12% of superannuation and NFP salary packaging
  • 70-hour fortnight, Flexible working arrangements, EAP, and other benefits

THE OPPORTUNITY

  • Contribute to providing high level secretariat support to the elected Council.
  • Provide assistance to the Director Leadership Support

The role of Secretariat Officer position exercises a high degree of initiative, resourcefulness, discretion and confidentiality. This role offers you the opportunity to utilise your professional skills to make a difference in supporting NSWALC’s strategic agenda by: 

  • Ensuring that Council meetings are compliant, accurately captured in minutes with outcomes distributed, and business records maintained. 
  • Coordinate the timely completion and despatch of the Council agenda and papers and report to Council on progress on actions from previous meetings. 
  • Coordinate the maintenance of Committee business records.
  • Assist the Director Leadership Support to deliver key outcomes for the Councillors and Leadership Team.
  • Always maintain confidential information and exercise ethical practice in a politically sensitive environment.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the induction and professional development of Councillors.
  • Use of IT systems to manage records, upload documents, action tasks and generate reports
  • Act in accordance with NSWALC people policies and procedures, including WHS obligations at all times applying high standards of probity and ethical behaviour.

Success Criteria: 

  • Demonstrated experience working with Board/Committees/Executive Team as a minute taker/scribe.  
  • Demonstrated organisational skills, time management skills and ability to manage a high volume of work with competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise discretion and judgment whilst maintaining confidentiality.
  • High level project management skills and capacity to coordinate support of high-level committees. 
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively at a senior level both with internal and external stakeholders and committees.
  • Knowledge of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 and Regulation.
  • Knowledge and/or appreciation of the cultural, social and economic needs of Aboriginal people.
  • Integrity and commitment to Ethical Practice, Equity, Diversity and Occupational Health and Safety.

Desirable: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983. 
  • Tertiary qualifications in governance or equivalent.
