A globally connected law firm is seeking an experienced Associate / Senior Associate to join its growing Technology, Cyber & Privacy practice in Melbourne.
This is a standout opportunity for a lawyer who wants a genuine cyber and data privacy focus, including hands\-on incident response work, regulatory engagement and complex advisory matters for major insurers and corporates. The role sits within a high\-growth practice that regularly advises on significant domestic and international cyber incidents, with strong APAC and global collaboration.
The Opportunity
Youâll work closely with partners and clients on front\-line cyber and data privacy matters, including incident response, data breaches and regulatory notifications, alongside broader privacy compliance and emerging digital regulation work.
The practice advises leading Australian and multinational clients and plays a central role in coordinating cross\-border cyber incidents, working with international teams across multiple jurisdictions. This is not a peripheral cyber role â youâll be involved in real incident response matters from day one, while also contributing to the broader growth of a strategically important practice area.
What Youâll Be Doing
- Responding to cyber incidents and data breaches for insurers and corporates
- Advising on regulatory notification obligations and managing regulator engagement
- Supporting pre\-incident preparedness and post\-incident response
- Conducting privacy and data compliance audits and providing ongoing compliance advice
- Advising on Australian privacy, data protection, cyber security and related regulatory frameworks
- Working on emerging digital and technology regulation, including online safety, platform regulation and AI risk
- Collaborating with international cyber teams on cross\-border incidents
- Managing matters efficiently, supervising junior lawyers and contributing to knowledge\-sharing
- Supporting the continued growth of the cyber and privacy practice
About You
This role will suit a lawyer who brings:
- Around 3â8 yearsâ PQE (flexible depending on experience)
- Demonstrated experience in cyber incident response and/or data privacy compliance
- Strong knowledge of Australian privacy and data protection laws
- Experience advising under time pressure in incident response scenarios
- Excellent drafting, communication and stakeholder management skills
- A commercial, solutions\-focused approach
- A collaborative mindset and interest in building depth in cyber and privacy law
- Exposure to general commercial or technology matters (helpful but not essential)
