Senior Communications & Engagement Officer

Office of the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner

Location: Parramatta CBD (Hybrid)

Employment type: Temporary full-time

Salary: Clerk Grade 9/10 $129,464.00 - $142,665.00 pa

(plus employers’ contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading)

Shape the narrative on modern slavery in NSW

Join the Office of the NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner (OASC) and help shape how modern slavery is understood, prevented, and addressed across NSW.

As the Senior Communications & Engagement Officer, you’ll design and deliver strategic communications and engagement initiatives that support the Commissioner’s priorities, build trusted relationships, and raise awareness across government, industry, civil society, and the community.

This is a hands-on, influential role suited to a communications professional who thrives in purpose-driven environments and enjoys working across complex stakeholder landscapes.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will:

  • Lead end-to-end internal and external communications and stakeholder engagement campaigns

  • Build and maintain strong relationships across government, industry, civil society, research, and lived-experience communities

  • Support media, thought leadership, and public engagement opportunities to strengthen the Commissioner’s profile

  • Prepare high-quality communications products including media materials, digital content, reports and stakeholder briefings

  • Coordinate events, consultations and engagement activities

  • Manage issues, risks and reactive communications in a fast-paced environment

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communications and engagement initiatives

You’ll work closely with the Comms & Engagement Manager in a small, high-performing statutory office during a period of growth and influence.

About us

The NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner is an independent statutory officer reporting to NSW Parliament. The OASC supports the Commissioner to advocate for, monitor and promote effective action to combat modern slavery in NSW — including forced labour, trafficking, servitude, forced marriage and other forms of exploitation.

OASC is a small, specialist office of approximately 12 staff, offering the opportunity to work closely with senior decision-makers and influence policy, practice and public understanding.

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking a motivated communications professional who brings:

  • Experience delivering strategic communications and stakeholder engagement initiatives

  • Strong writing, editing and messaging skills across multiple channels

  • Confidence providing high-level advice in complex or sensitive environments

  • Experience working in human rights, social justice, sustainability or vulnerable-population contexts (highly regarded)

  • A collaborative, adaptable approach and strong attention to detail

If you’re passionate about impact, relationships and purpose-led communications, we’d love to hear from you.
