Job Description - Senior Community Engagement Specialist


Senior Community Engagement Specialist – 12 Max Term Contract – Perth CBD


 


The Senior Community Engagement Specialist is accountable for developing best practice engagement strategies and delivering proactive customer engagement and stakeholder relationship services working in Western Power’s Stand-alone Power Systems program. You will be working on regional projects, including alternative technology such as microgrids and batteries.


 


This position is critical in the provision of key stakeholder and customer engagement processes, which will ultimately enhance the understanding of Western Power’s Stand-alone Power System program, reducing the risk to Western Power and the community.


 


Your Role in Action  



  • Accountable for developing and implementing best practice approaches and engagement plans in the community for Western Power’s infrastructure projects

  • Deliver proactive, hands-on strategic planning subject matter expertise to support and achieve both internal and external engagements activities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Western Power’s community and stakeholder engagement approach for Western Power’s new infrastructure and maintenance projects

  • Deliver and implement engagement plans for multiple projects consistent with Western Power’s brand and strategic objectives, which can include:

    • developing communications such as , project letters, promotional material, , , customer engagement scripts and publications associated with business objectives;

    • identifying innovative ways to engage communities, particularly using SMS, online platforms, and digital media, and integrate this into existing processes;

    • meeting customers and stakeholders to discuss queries face to face, which could involve regional travel; - managing Western Power events to commemorate key project milestones; and

    • responding to escalated customer complaints.



  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including Local Governments and project partners to ensure their communications activities are strategically aligned with Western Power.

  • Strongly influence the internal awareness and acceptance of Western Power’s approach to community engagement and act as an internal advocate for community views to influence decision

  • As required, report on input on all project communications and engagement status, progress against plan, lessons learnt, issues etc. as part of weekly, monthly, quarterly and milestone, progress, and final reporting

  • Enhance and improve Western Power’s relationship and reputation with community stakeholders and work to minimise impacts of our infrastructure projects


 


What Makes You a Great Fit 



  • Tertiary qualification in Communications, Social Planning and Sciences, Marketing, or related discipline

  • Extensive experience and knowledge, of at least 8 to 10+ years, in communication, community engagement, stakeholder management or a related field

  • Demonstrated and high level of subject matter expertise and experience in incorporating best practice communication / community and stakeholder engagement practices in large and contentious infrastructure / innovative projects

  • Understanding of International Association of Public Participation spectrum

  • Advanced and very strong communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate at multiple stakeholder levels

  • Ability to prioritise work and critically assess own performance

  • Excellent listening skills with a strong ability to demonstrate understanding and empathy

  • Ability to work as part of a team (essential).
