Senior Data Analyst

• Salary ranges from $129,464 to $142,665 p.a. plus employer contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading

About the role

As a strategic Senior Data Analyst, you will lead policy driven research, analysis and interpretation of large complex datasets to develop high-quality evidence-based insights and actionable recommendations that support senior leaders’ decision-making on policy development across VET sector.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business needs, deliver analytical solutions and support Department priorities


• Conducting complex quantitative analysis of large and diverse datasets to identify trends, emerging issues, risks and opportunities, and generate actionable insights to inform policy, program and strategic decision-making.


• Preparing high-quality written briefs, reports, presentations, dashboards and other reporting products to communicate insights and recommendations to executives and key stakeholders.


• Driving improvements to enhance data quality, accuracy, reporting and analytical capabilities

About you

As a Senior Data Analyst, your role is beyond technical expertise. You are an effective communicator and strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex data into compelling narrative and insights that influence stakeholders’ decision-making and drive positive policy outcomes.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience working with large datasets within a dynamic and complex environment


• Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data and information into a clear and concise manner


• Proven communication skills, both verbally and written, with ability to communicate insights succinctly and develop sharp briefs and reports for senior leadership teams


• Proficiency in programs including, Python, R or SQL Scripting


• Experience working with data visualization tools, such as Power BI


• Exceptional organisation and time management skills to manage competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines. 

Key knowledge and experience

• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

• Degree qualified in a quantitative discipline, and/or equivalent knowledge and experience.


• Hold a valid Working with Children Check for paid employment


• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
