Senior Data Engineer

As a Senior Data Engineer, your purpose is to serve as a technical champion for advanced data engineering within IAG. You will lead the development, optimisation, and management of sophisticated data pipelines that support multiple data products across diverse operational environments.

Using your expertise in SQL, DBT, APIs, and AI-driven data engineering, you will drive innovation, reliability, and scalability across IAG’s data platforms, ensuring solutions are robust, secure, and aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Gadigal Country (Darling Park 2, Sydney).

What You'll Do

• Lead the design, development, and optimisation of advanced data pipelines using SQL and DBT to deliver scalable, high‑quality data products.


• Perform rigorous code reviews and uphold best‑practice engineering standards across all data transformations and pipelines.


• Design and maintain robust APIs and data integrations, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient data access across platforms.


• Drive automation and AI‑enabled enhancements to improve the efficiency, performance, and reliability of data engineering processes.


• Oversee production releases, testing, and data observability, ensuring stable deployments and high data quality.


• Provide technical leadership and mentoring, collaborating closely with product, security, and governance teams to deliver compliant, business‑aligned solutions.

What You'll Bring

• Strong experience in data engineering, working with complex, large-scale data products.


• Proven experience building and optimising enterprise-grade data pipelines, APIs, and automated data processes.


• Advanced proficiency in SQL and DBT.


• Demonstrated experience applying AI and automation techniques in data engineering workflows.


• Strong experience with multiple database technologies and cloud-based data platforms.


• Solid understanding of data testing, release management, and data observability practices.
