Job Description - Senior Digital Media and Communication Officer

Senior Digital Media and Communication Officer

The Queensland Reconstruction Authority is the state government's lead agency for disaster recovery and resilience, with a team working hard every day to help Queenslanders and make our great state the most disaster resilient in the nation.

As QRA's Senior Digital Media and Communications Officer you will ensure more people know about the role and responsibilities of our organisation, the work we do, and how it benefits, strengthens and protects communities.

Your exceptional and wide-reaching skillset will stretch across the digital realm, including social media, web, photography, videography and design.

You will also be able to support other work in the media and communications space, offering sharp written copy, big ideas, and the ability to manage issues and build productive working relationships.

In this role you will lead QRA's digital activities, with a focus on social media and web content.

You will be responsible for the organisation's social strategy, and the research, creation and management of social posts and other media and communications materials, reporting to QRA's Media Manager.

  • Through your work you will raise the profile of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, our campaigns, and the ways we help Queenslanders.
  • Take QRA's digital content and presence in new and exciting directions, utilising the latest technology, techniques and networks to share our message and grow our audience.
  • Create fresh, topical and timely social media and web content that showcases the work of QRA and how we're supporting Queenslanders to prepare for and recover from disaster.
  • Develop strategies that increase our key metrics across digital media and communications platforms, including follower numbers, engagement and reach, visits, views and click-throughs.
  • Deliver social media campaigns, including the use of paid techniques such as boosted or sponsored posts.
  • Capture high-quality photos and videos, carry out editing and post-production, and produce graphics and other digital materials that pop, using programs including Canva and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
  • Write sharp and accurate content that encourages follower engagement and extends our reach and voice into new groups and conversations.
  • Manage social media elements of high-profile government advertising campaigns, including always-on content, for example the If It's Flooded, Forget It driver awareness campaign.
  • Moderate social accounts and identify potential media and reputational risks, managing appropriately.
  • Support media monitoring efforts and provide written media and communications assistance when needed (e.g. drafting media releases, speeches, hot issues briefs).
  • Carry out regular social media performance reporting that provides valuable insights to QRA leadership.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of QRA's work, programs, and Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements to provide additional support to the Media team as required, in particular during summer disaster season.
  • Support the wider team through flexible working arrangements, including the ability to work early or late shifts, or be on call afterhours.
  • Foster collaborative and productive relationships with all divisions within QRA and with external stakeholders, to source information, inform content and maximise value.
