What's the role?
Platform Engineering | Sydney, 2 Holt Street | Hybrid (3 days in office)
We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team, contributing to the design, build, and ongoing operation of cloud infrastructure that underpins critical business systems across News Corp. This is a hands-on engineering role, you will be embedded in the day-to-day delivery of cloud platforms, writing code, building tooling, and solving infrastructure problems alongside a team of experienced engineers.
You will report to the Senior Manager, Cloud Engineering within the Global Infrastructure Engineering team, and work closely with peer engineers, platform leads, and product teams across the organization.
Build, maintain, and improve cloud infrastructure on AWS, with some exposure to GCP.
Develop and maintain automation tooling and scripts, primarily in Python
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins
Participate as a resolver in incident and problem management for in-scope platforms
Monitor and maintain platform health using tools such as CloudWatch, Splunk, SumoLogic, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana
Identify and remediate cloud security vulnerabilities in line with team standards and security frameworks
Adhere to security, privacy, and compliance policies as they apply to your work
Work closely with peer engineers and platform leads, contributing actively in team ceremonies and technical discussions
Write clear technical documentation for the platforms and tooling you work on
Engage with customer teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions that meet their needs
Share knowledge with teammates and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
Solid hands-on experience with core AWS services such as VPC, IAM, Organizations and governance policies
Strong programming ability in Python, with experience writing tooling, automation scripts, or Lambda functions
Practical experience with Kubernetes, particularly Amazon EKS, and associated tooling including ArgoCD and associated GitOps deployment and configuration methods
Experience building and maintaining infrastructure as code using Terraform, exposure to Terragrunt a bonus
Working knowledge of CI/CD tooling: GitHub Actions and/or Jenkins
Experience administering Linux-based systems
Familiarity with monitoring and observability tooling such as CloudWatch, Splunk, SumoLogic, or New Relic
Exposure to GCP services (Compute, IAM, VPC, Cloud Run, GKE): Familiarity expected, deep expertise not required
Experience working within Agile delivery teams
Comfortable managing work through Jira and Confluence
Experience working within GitHub-based SDLC workflows
Able to write documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences
Clear written and verbal communication, you can explain what you've built and why
Takes ownership of assigned work and sees it through to completion
Comfortable working independently, and equally effective as part of a team
Approaches problems methodically, and isn't afraid to try a non-obvious solution
Constructive in technical discussions, you can disagree and commit
Cloud certifications (AWS, GCP, or cross-discipline)
Experience with cloud networking and network infrastructure management
Hands-on experience with Cloud Custodian
Exposure to ServiceNow and self-service workflow automation
The Platform Engineering team is part of the Global Infrastructure Engineering function at News Corp.
