Reference number: 13206

Engagement type: Permanent

AEMO at the Heart of Energy

AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians.  Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.

Victorian Power System Analysis is accountable for planning the transmission system, making network investment decisions, assessing the connection of new generators and loads in Victoria and ensuring these investments don’t adversely impact the power system as a whole.

The department plays a key role in successfully navigating the energy future by determining investments and approaches that are in the best interest of consumers, and by acting as a trusted advisor for VicGrid and the Victorian Government.

Partner with VicGrid on generator, storage and datacentre connections. Hybrid working across Bris, Syd, Melb, Perth or Adel | Great benefits. Join a supportive team where you'll mentor engineers, influence stakeholders and help deliver Victoria's future energy system. Lead complex power system studies using PSSE, PSCAD and PowerFactory.

About the roles

Join us as a Senior Engineer in the Victorian Synchronous and Storage Connections team and help bring the future of Victoria’s transmission network to life. In these roles, you’ll lead the assessments of connections projects—including wind, solar, BESS, and hybrid connections. You will develop solutions to enable projects to get connected in Victoria and undertake analysis in different power system applications to assess performance.

These roles can be based in any of AEMO’s offices (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide) with flexible/hybrid working arrangements. AEMO provides an essential service and actively promotes flexible working arrangements within our team.

We have strong team structures, culture and communication tools in place to ensure all employees remain actively connected to each other and the broader AEMO organisation.

What you will be doing

These roles are ideal for technically strong power systems engineers who enjoy solving complex challenges, mentoring junior engineers and building trusted relationships across the energy industry. You'll be a confident communicator, comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels and influencing outcomes in a collaborative and professional manner.

In these positions, you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the most significant projects shaping the energy transition, including close collaboration with VicGrid and the growing integration of datacentres into the power system. Joining a highly respected and supportive team, you'll be backed by experienced leaders who are committed to your development and success while providing exposure to industry-leading work across the NEM.

You will lead complex power system studies using PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory and small signal analysis tools to support generator, energy storage, datacentre, offshore wind and HVDC connection projects. Working closely with network businesses, equipment manufacturers and industry stakeholders, you will assess the impact of emerging technologies on the power system, contribute to joint planning activities and develop innovative technical solutions.

You will also work closely with developers, market participants and government agencies, helping strengthen AEMO's reputation as a trusted advisor while supporting the successful integration of new technologies across the NEM.
