Job Description - Senior Financial Accountant

McCormack is one of Australia’s leading family-owned building services companies. We specialise in fit-out and refurbishment, asset repositioning, design and construct and heritage restoration. McCormack has a strong commitment to the development and wellbeing of our team members. 

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Financial Accountant to join our dynamic team in Melbourne. This role is integral to maintaining financial integrity and providing insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making in a fast-paced commercial office fit-out environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:



  • Manage accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing and collections




  • Oversee accounts payable and payroll functions

  • Provide meaningful project and financial analysis, delivering reports that support business decision-making

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain accurate financial records for month-end and year-end processes

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements to drive efficiency

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies

  • Be hands-on and able to cover for other finance staff during periods of leave

Qualifications and Experience:


  • CPA or CA qualification

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in accounting or finance

  • Proven expertise in financial and project reporting, as well as financial controls

  • Experience in the construction industry or a prior role in an accounting firm will be highly regarded

  • Demonstrated experience in managing people and leading teams

Skills and Knowledge:


  • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of key financial functions

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel

  • Strong technical accounting, reporting, and financial analysis skills

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement capabilities

  • High attention to detail while maintaining a strategic, big-picture approach

  • Strong organisational skills with a methodical and meticulous work style

  • A team player with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
