Job Description - Senior Financial Accountant

About the role

Reporting to the Executive Director Finance, the Senior Financial Accountant will lead and manage all operational finance functions, playing a pivotal role in Mamre’s long-term financial sustainability. You will prepare financial reports for the board (presented by the ED Finance), CEO and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) as well as build financial literacy across the organisation. You will oversee the annual budgeting, forecasting, reporting and statutory compliance functions. You will lead the Finance Team to embed an internal service ethos, supporting and guiding the organisation in all financial matters.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Preparation of monthly financial reports including balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other internal management reports as needed.
  • Interpret and provide technical advice on Australian Accounting Standards and other statutory financial reporting requirements.
  • Analyse financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the Exec Director-Finance’s attention.
  • Budget preparation and preparing the monthly budget variance analyses with commentaries.
  • Maintaining and reconciling fixed assets register.
  • Provide all areas of the organisation with the information and insights required to monitor and improve financial performance and to make sound business decisions.
  • Manage periodic statutory reporting and lodgement obligations, with ATO, ACNC and ABS.
  • Provide timely, accurate and clear financial information to the CEO, ELT, the Finance and Audit Committee and the Board.
  • Work with the auditor to produce annual statutory accounts in a timely manner to meet AGM requirements.

Governance & Risk Management

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile and report risk issues to the ED Finance
  • Maintain oversight of compliance with competition, consumer and workplace obligations
  • Ensure record keeping meets the requirements of auditors
  • Maintain relationships with external auditors and investigate their findings
  • Oversee and ensure currency of all company insurance requirements.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a Senior Financial Accountant position with well-developed technical and reporting skills
  • Degree Qualified Accountant with CA or CPA Membership
  • Experience working in the Disability sector highly desirable
  • Experience leading successful annual budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Payroll and various Financial Systems (Xero and
    Employment Hero will be advantages)
  • Outstanding verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify challenges/obstacles and identify innovation
    solutions in partnership with ELT
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and management skills
  • Current Blue Card and Yellow Card/NDIS Worker Screening Card or willingness to obtain
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
