Senior Financial Controller

Senior Financial Controller The Australian Workers' Union of Employees, Queensland location Brisbane.

The Australian Workers' Union of Employees, Queensland is currently seeking to employ a Senior Financial Controller with permanency after six months at the Branch Office located in Brisbane that is responsible for payroll, accounts receivable/payable, financial reporting, regulatory compliance (BAS, FBT, Electoral office etc) and operational analysis (including budgeting and forecasting) across all AWUEQ services.

Duties and responsibilities the position will be based in Brisbane and will be responsible for payroll and Employee Related Tasks (including using MYOB and Sage Micro Pay). New Employee Induction – includes finance related policy & procedures; and ARMS training (internal program for union). Banking and Bank Reconciliation.

Risk and Compliance. Fringe Benefit Tax – compliance with the same. Membership – liaising with membership officers regarding any financial enquiries, and National Office compliance. Supplier Invoices and Recording Expenses – issuing invoices, reconciliation and data entry of the same with MYOB, payment of invoices and for the union website.

Processing and completing of all traffic infringement notices (if arise). Compliance with National office and Committee of Management reporting (Monthly and Quarterly). Participating in Professional Training through National Office and Payroll EOY Courses annually. Other reporting – Workforce Gender Equality Returns for National Office, completion of AEC return and BAS completion and reporting.

Liaise with Auditors in preparation of EOFY Financial Accounts and production (if required) and any other matters that arise needing the Auditors attention. Preparation of Annual Budget and monthly reporting of actual vs budget. Rolling forecasting - preparation of a rolling quarterly forecast (8-12 quarters in advance).

Maintaining the administration for the Car Fleet – including servicing reminders, mileage factors, accidents returns and issues of new cars; and day to day tasks required for cars. Liaising with in-house counsel with regards to Queensland Industrial Relations Commission and ROC compliance matters; and  Any further instructions or actions from the Secretary.

Technologically savvy - Ability to critically review and offer improvements to systems and processes by referencing/integrating new systems and/or processes. MYOB/XERO experience and applications within the MYOB/XERO ecosystem including DEXT and Spotlight. Industry experience. Power BI experience; and experience in compiling dashboard type Board reporting.

Qualifications relevant tertiary qualifications (Accounting or Finance); and professional accounting qualifications (CA or CPA) (or working towards same).
