Company Description

CSA Mine is one of Australia’s longest operating copper mines with a history stretching back almost 150 years. At 1.9 kilometres deep, CSA is the second deepest copper mine in Australia and the third highest copper grade in the world. Located near the NSW town of Cobar, CSA Mine employs around 550 people and produces approximately 40,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per year. The ore is mined and processed on site and then transported by rail 700km to the Port of Newcastle for export. CSA Mine was acquired by Metals Acquisition Limited in June 2023.

Job Description

CSA Mine is looking for Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the Technical Services Team. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will develop and implement control measures to minimise the geotechnical risk associated with underground mining.

About the role

  • Provide geotechnical input into mine design, production sequencing, stope design & capital infrastructure excavations
  • Maintain optimum development ground control standards including the implementation of sequencing guidelines to permit reliable production access & minimise rehabilitation requirements
  • Review ground control performance with regard to design, operational practices and design assumptions   
  • Maintain & optimise hazard management systems pertaining to excavation stability including hazard management plans, minimum ground control design and installation standards
  • Identify potential vulnerabilities to future mining plans and implement planning and control measures to quantify and minimise risk to personnel & production
  • Identify data acquisition requirements and implement collection, recording or monitoring systems as required 
  • Maintain effective communication with technical and operational staff to improve site-wide awareness and understanding of geotechnical risks
  • Manage and administer ground control contractors
  • Ensure all work plans and cable plans are complete in a timely manner to allow planning and operations to complete all required work so as not to affect the operation of the mine. 

About you:

  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence (minimum P2 or equivalent) 
  • Degree in Mining, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering
  • 5 + years’ experience in underground metalliferous mining
  • Proficient skills using Deswik

Conditions:

This position is offered on a residential or drive in drive out (DIDO) or fly in fly out (FIFO). If residential is the preferred commute option relocation costs and a housing subsidy will be provided to the successful candidate to assist in relocating to Cobar. Candidates interested in the DIDO or FIFO will be provided with commute single accommodation and meals at the mine camp. CSA also provides Pool & Gym Reimbursements to our employees and their dependants.

Located an eight-hour drive to Sydney, nine-hour drive to Melbourne, and a quick three-hour drive to Dubbo, Cobar is a fascinating town rich in mining heritage and natural attractions. Entertainment options include restaurants, pubs, and clubs for dining out. You will be kept busy with a bowling and golf club, rugby and rugby league teams, race club, pony club, Olympic size swimming pool, gym – and more! The town boasts beautiful parks, two reservoirs, picnic areas and playgrounds.
