Job Description - Senior Investigator


Fixed term, full time role for 3 years


Salary - VPS 5.1: $113,022 to $124,884 + 12% superannuation


Location - 27-29 Faithful Street, Wangaratta 3677

About the role:


Reporting to the Team Leader, Investigations – North East Region, the Senior Investigator is a senior member of a team of investigators responsible for conducting intelligence-led investigations into environmental crime (relating to pollution and waste) in the region.


 


In this role you will: 



  • Oversight, plan and deliver proactive, intelligence led investigations in the region, using innovative techniques to target high risk offenders

  • Ensure close collaboration with regional operations teams, Legal Branch, Data Analytics and Intelligence Unit and other parts of EPA in delivering EPA’s strategic regulatory priorities

  • Contribute to the uplift in investigations capability in the region.

  • Work collaboratively with co-regulators to drive improved environmental and public health outcomes; and provide local intelligence to inform EPA’s strategic regulatory priorities.

  • Participate in the response to environmental and public health emergencies and incidents, including out-of-hours work as required.


 


Skills and experience:



  • Senior level experience in the management and conduct of criminal investigations.

  • Knowledge of contemporary techniques for the conduct of proactive and reactive investigations.

  • Ability to implement performance management and development frameworks that manage staff performance.

  • A proven record of achievement in a similar role which contributes to organisational excellence, high standards of performance and a positive organisational culture.

  • A relevant tertiary degree or qualifications in investigations, law or a related discipline is desirable.

  • Current EPA Authorised Officer and Informant is desirable.

  • An understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
