Senior Lawyer, Customer Management Legal

What’s the role? 

You’ll join Westpac’s Customer Management Legal team, helping the Group manage and resolve a broad range of litigated and non-litigated disputes. 

Working closely with business stakeholders, external legal providers and colleagues across Westpac, you’ll provide practical legal advice, negotiate appropriate resolutions and help navigate complex legal and commercial issues. You’ll work across different jurisdictions, courts and tribunals while supporting the effective management of outsourced litigation. 

You’ll also identify emerging legal risks, provide clear advice and escalate significant issues when needed. This is an opportunity to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative legal team that values sound judgement, commercial thinking and high professional standards. 

This is a full-time permanent role that can be based in either Sydney or Melbourne. Standard Westpac working hours apply, with some flexibility needed during busy litigation, dispute and regulatory periods. 

What do I need? 

You’ll bring strong legal judgement, a practical approach and the confidence to work through complex disputes with a range of stakeholders. 

• Admission as an Australian lawyer, supported by strong litigation and dispute resolution experience. 


• The ability to provide clear, practical and commercially focused legal advice. 


• An understanding of banking and finance disputes, with exposure to financial services highly regarded. 


• Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills. 


• Sound risk awareness and the ability to work autonomously, exercise judgement and escalate issues appropriately. 


• Experience with bankruptcy and insolvency, AFCA matters, responsible lending, mortgages or consumer lending would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
