Deliver integrated academic and clinical outcomes in Critical Care Medicine

The Opportunity

Western Sydney University is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Critical Care Medicine to join the School of Medicine at Blacktown Clinical School on a part-time basis.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to a highly integrated academic-clinical environment, supporting the education of future medical practitioners while delivering specialist critical care services within the local health district.

You will play a key role in designing and delivering high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate medicine programs, including curriculum development, assessment, and feedback. The position supports student progression, academic excellence, and graduate employability, while contributing to course administration and quality assurance.

In addition to academic responsibilities, you will contribute to the delivery of Critical Care services at Blacktown Hospital, undertaking clinical and administrative duties within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and/or high dependency settings, working collaboratively with academic and clinical colleagues to advance teaching, research, and clinical practice in critical care.

What Success Looks Like:

• Deliver high-quality, engaging teaching and assessment across medicine programs
• Contribute to curriculum development in Critical Care Medicine / Intensive Care
• Support student learning, progression and employability outcomes
• Engage in research and scholarly activity relevant to critical illness, resuscitation, sepsis, trauma, or organ support
• Contribute to clinical critical care service delivery and departmental responsibilities
• Strengthen integration between academic teaching, research and ICU clinical practice

About You

You are an enthusiastic and collaborative clinical academic and Critical Care Medicine with a strong commitment to education, research, and high-quality patient care.

For Senior Lecturer Level

• Advanced academic expertise with strong teaching and research track record
• Demonstrated leadership in curriculum development and innovation
• Established research profile (publications, grants, or clinical research programs)
• Experience supervising students and contributing to academic governance

Essential Requirements

• Medical qualification with specialist training in Critical Care Medicine (or equivalent ICU specialty pathway)
• Fellowship of a relevant college (e.g., College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), RACP, ANZCA, or equivalent) 
• Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia
• Eligibility to hold a clinical appointment at Blacktown Hospital
• Consultant-level experience in Intensive Care Medicine
