As Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in providing strategic legal advice and guidance on a wide range of construction, infrastructure, and engineering projects. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, they will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure legal compliance, mitigate risks, and facilitate successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert legal advice and support on complex construction, infrastructure, and engineering projects, including contract negotiation, risk assessment and legal strategy.
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including construction agreements, procurement contracts, and joint venture agreements.
Stay updated on legal developments and regulatory changes impacting the construction and infrastructure industry, and provide proactive advice to the business.
Manage external legal counsel effectively, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of legal services.
Collaborate cross-functionally with project teams, finance, procurement, and other departments to address legal issues and achieve project objectives.
Identify and assess legal risks associated with projects and implement strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
Develop and implement company policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure legal compliance and risk management across the organization.
Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal matters relevant to their areas of responsibility.
Conduct due diligence reviews and assessments for potential projects, acquisitions, and partnerships.
Support the General Counsel in advising senior management on legal matters and strategic initiatives.
Monitor and manage legal budgets and expenditures, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Law; Master's degree or equivalent preferred
Current practicing certificate
Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience in construction, infrastructure, or engineering law
Proven track record of negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts
Strong understanding of construction law, procurement regulations, and industry standards
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
Experience working in-house at a construction company or law firm specializing in construction law is highly desirable
