Senior Legal Counsel (Litigation) - Room for Advancement

In-house opportunity for an experienced litigator with life insurance experience

Your new role

While working in a high performing, agile environment, you will focus on life insurance disputes before the Courts and Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), but may also be involved in other disputes such as Regulatory, Commercial, Superannuation and Investments, and Employment disputes.

Some of your responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Take a lead role in managing the conduct and resolution of disputes and litigated matters
  
• Manage external disputes lodged with AFCA and other external bodies
  
• Manage and instruct external law firms
  
• Effectively communicate with senior management/stakeholders around key legal issues and potential risks to the business
  
• Provide commercially focused high-quality legal advice
  
• Support capability uplift and mentor other team members
  
• Lead by example, role-modelling collaboration, innovation, and technical and service excellence

What you'll need to succeed

• Ideally a minimum of 8+ years PQE
  
• Admitted to practice as a Lawyer in Australia
  
• Excellent knowledge of and experience in the area of life insurance disputes
  
• Effective interpersonal skills, a strong eye for detail and highly developed communication skills (both written and verbal)
  
• Experience and confidence in dealing with internal clients and external parties
  
• The ability to work independently but also collaboratively within a team
  
• Strong time management skills with the ability to manage conflicting deadlines
