The role and what we are looking for

The Senior Manager - Risk, Compliance & Business Delivery is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Risk and compliance function of the Capricorn Risk division (CRD). This role will work with the CEO and the chair of the ARCC to develop and implement improved risk management frameworks, and to uplift the risk and compliance capabilities. In addition to this, this role will manage a range of centralised capabilities for the Risk Division, including strategy development & implementation and project management of business lead projects.

Some of your key responsibilities will include

  • Set the strategic direction of the Risk and compliance area within CRD.
  • Develop and implement improved risk management frameworks within the CRD.
  • Working closely with the centralised risk teams, this role will be responsible for the uplift and maintenance of the Risk and compliance culture within CRD.
  • Act as the responsible manager from a licence perspective for the Capricorn Mutual Limited (CML) and Capricorn Insurance Services (CIS) businesses.
  • Chair and manage Risk & Compliance, Staff Engagement, IT development and project management and change operational committees for the Risk Division.
  • Update and maintain relevant risk division and CIS-specific business policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Lead, Mentor and develop the Strategy Delivery & Business Support team, and be responsible for the implementation of the risk division’s key strategic initiatives and work with all departments to ensure that any assigned products, services and operational changes are designed, developed and implemented on time and on budget
  • This role acts as a key contact point for the various Capricorn business entities and is required to present on business results and other matters at CML's (Capricorn Mutual Limited) bi-monthly board meetings.
  • Ensure that accounts and all the reports are accurate and in accordance with set standards and meet the expectations of the Board.
  • Responsible for the preparation of various standard and ad-hoc reports to the CML (Capricorn Mutual Limited) Board as well as for the CEO, other Boards, sub-Board Committees and various Operational Governance Committees.
  • Perform other tasks as reasonably requested within the individual’s skills, competence, and ability.

What will you bring?

  • Expert understanding of the Insurance / Risk protection industry or related/equivalent industries.
  • High level analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and analyse and communicate complex matters to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to relate and compare data from different sources, identifying issues and securing information and identifying relationships.
  • Ability to understand and adapt to changing business requirements and develop appropriate action plans relative to the strengths and weaknesses of the business unit to identify the optimum strategic response.
  • Good understanding of business and corporate legislation particularly as it relates to the Trade Practices Act (desirable), Corporations Act and the various ASIC Regulatory Guides.
  • Track record of demonstrating outstanding leadership and people management skills to provide inspired direction and values to the team.
  • Ability to provide direction, guidance, and influence the business unit at senior leadership and operational levels.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results.
  • High quality written and verbal communication skills.
  • High skill level in the use of MS Office Software Suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Business process improvement experience.

Experience

  • 15+ years’ senior leadership experience in Risk and compliance within insurance and/or broking roles.
  • 10+ years of coaching, mentoring and leading teams.
  • Experience implementing risk management frameworks within complex financial services businesses.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering initiatives on time.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and presentation of papers for Boards, executives and senior management.
  • Experience in defining new products and revenue-related projects and understanding the process of launching products and projects.
  • Track record of business initiative innovation.
  • Experience managing and taking part of projects as a project lead or board member.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary Qualification in Commerce or Business Management or in a related discipline.
  • ASIC RG146 qualification in an insurance discipline.
