Job Description - Senior NDIS Support Coordinator

Who we are


The MJD Foundation (MJDF) partners with and supports Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander families living with Machado Joseph Disease (MJD) and Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 7 (SCA7) to live fulfilling and rewarding lives. The MJDF is an Aboriginal organisation and we take our core values from combining best practice western and traditional cultural knowledge in the ‘Our-way’ approachBy providing flexible and culturally responsive care based on a strong foundation of enduring relationships, we aim to provide families living with MJD (specialist) care and support, working together to stay stronger for longer. We are currently recruiting for a Senior NDIS Support Coordinator with an Allied Health qualification to join our NDIS team in Darwin and provide support to our clients and families.



The Position


The Senior NDIS Support Coordinator has overall responsibility for managing the day-to-day funding required to ensure clients have the best possible outcome in line with the goals in their NDIS plans. A key aspect of the role is navigating and implementing culturally safe practices and support under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This will include the provision of Support Coordination to support clients to access appropriate services and achieve their goals.


 


This is a fast-paced role in a fluid environment supporting complex clients. You will work in a small, supportive, NDIS team.

It is important that you demonstrate that you have good knowledge of the NDIS, that you strive for excellence and that you are comfortable providing supports and flexibility within the NDIS framework. You will have strong interpersonal skills and work well in a cross-cultural environment. You will build close relationships with inspiring clients, colleagues and stakeholders. You will be part of a small and committed team, and you would be comfortable stepping into the NDIS manager role when on leave. The expertise that you bring to the role may be varied, including skills that you have developed through education and in previous employment, or your life experience as a member of the community and a user of the service system.

Selection Criteria:



  1. Relevant qualifications in an Allied Health discipline (for example in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social worker) with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training;

  2. At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role providing support coordination and managing a complex case load;

  3. Experienced in utilising the NDIS Price Guide and the ability to offer flexibility within budgets understanding the remote context;

  4. Understanding of NDIS regulations including provisions relating to reasonable and necessary supports and the role of the mainstream service system;

  5. The ability to communicate effectively, sensitively and respectfully, both orally and in writing;

  6. Ability to demonstrate a mature and person-centred approach (by providing examples and via references);

  7. A commitment to person and family-centred practice and working within the MJD Foundation ‘Our Way’ approach;

  8. Excellent computer skills, especially the Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel;

  9. Experience in coordinating and leading Higher Delegate applications/reviews;

  10. Experience in coordinating high level AT (Assistive Technology) requirements for high needs clients and assisting in a lead NDIS role with OT’s (Occupational Therapists) on Functional Capacity Assessments;

  11. Experience in developing and lodging Access Request Forms;

  12. High level knowledge of Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) and Supported Independent Living (SIL) from an NDIS funding perspective; 


Desirable criteria:


Knowledge of, and experience working in Aboriginal communities and alongside Aboriginal community workers.
