Job Description - Senior Payroll Officer , Parliamentary Service

The opportunity:

Parliamentary Services is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Officer to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our payroll department, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for our employees.

The challenge:

  • Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll for approximately 740 employees.
  • Reconciliation and allocation of the budget for fortnightly payroll across different outputs within the Parliamentary Service.
  • Guidance to members, management, and staff regarding various compensation benefits, as well as policy and procedural mandates.
  • Prepare documentation related to Legislative Assembly Members' salaries and allowances.
  • Arrange HR correspondence, including letters of offer, appointments, and parental leave matters.
  • Collaborate with the Shared Services Client agency (Office of the Governor) on relevant documentation.

Your expertise:

  • High attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently to resolve payroll-related issues.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems (Aurion).
  • Understanding of legislation and award interpretation within the Parliamentary Service and Queensland Public Sector.
  • Intermediate excel skills for effective data management.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Minimum of 5 years' proven experience as a payroll officer in a similar-sized organisation.
